My most successful gallery work by far has been the colorful and illustrative images that make up Destination:China. In addition to being my first work shown in Central Florida, the DC images were also the first I created using extensive computer editing.
Truth is, at the time I really had little idea what I was doing. And so, using my past photo-silkcreen experience and methods of deconstructing an image, I decided to just have fun.
I used a lot of highly saturated monochrome colors schemes, posterized layers, tone-line overlays, and blended skies. I played with various filters and tools, and simply made note of the results.

The final images were for the most part happy accidents.
Well. time has passed, my photoshop skills have improved, and I've decided to take another look at all the film I shot those three weeks in China in 1996. Revisit them, if you will...
And perhaps coming full-circle in my way of seeing, I'd like to redo them, but try a different treatment this time around: fairly straight duotone or tritone photos with an old feel to them. Not pop, but traditional...
The photo to the left should give you an idea of what I'm talking about. There is little change from the orignal black & white print other than the added toning.

Look for an entirely new series of images and hopefully a gallery show in the coming year. To view my online galleries, click here. |
