Fitness Guru Susan Powter was at the height of her mid-1990s TV fame when I photographed her at the NATPE convention at the Miami Beach Convention Center.
From a celebrity pic point of view, covering The National Association of Television Program Executives national convention was like shooting fish in a barrel. There were many movie and television personalities there that week, all promoting various creative projects, and they were very willing to pose for photos. Susan was one of them.
Known for her frenetic infomercials touting her health and diet programs, I always found it funny that for someone whose slogan was Stop the Insanity! she looked and acted kind of crazy... :)
But there was something about her I really liked, both on tv and especially after meeting her in person. A bit hyper, but overall a sweet person (hmmm, for some reason I seem to really get along with those types).
I only grabbed a few shots, but this one is pert near perfect, and probably my favorite of all the celebrity and club shots I've ever taken. You can just tell how cool she is. She's being interviewed by the writer while eating, and still managed to play the camera and effortlessly mug for me.
In case you were wondering, after an extended time off to raise her son, Susan has recently restarted her career of helping people lead healthier lives. Now with long hair, a new web site (susanpowteronline.com) and the slogan Eat Breathe Move Think, Susan's still in high gear with no signs of slowing down...
