I am not sure if it's a new feature for web sites hosted by Squarespace or not, but I recently noticed that I can now publish a page (as part of my basic site menu) that shows a handful of images from my Instagram feed!
Now, I am not about to argue the merits of Instagram here. Over time, it has become completely different things to different people. I know some smart shooters who consider it a complete waste of time. I also know of emerging photographers that have become famous by harnessing its power. So whether it's beneficial for a photographer to spend time there or not is a discussion for another time...
I also disagree with those Instagram advocates that say everything on your feed needs to be serious work that continually touts your business and professionalism. Feh! In fact, I think it's a huge mistake to take Instagram too seriously, as no one else seems to.
I find its purpose and value much better suited to reflecting my personality. It's easy enough to find my portfolios online, but in a corporate world, those galleries alone can seem cold and maybe a bit sterile sometimes. My Instagram feed is mostly playful and tongue-in-cheek, hopefully making the viewer feel like they're tagging along with me as I dance throughout my day.
Hopefully there's enough real meat in my photos so you understand I am passionate about my job, but enough frivolity so you also realize I have fun! Some of my shots will take Instagram's traditional square format very seriously, others will not.
The way the feature here works is, you click on the Instagram link in the left side menu, it takes you to a page (still in The Photo Asylum web site), and you can preview sixteen of my most recent Instagram postings. Click on any of the pictures, and a new tab or browser page opens up on the actual Instagram web site.
Easy, peasy, lemon squeezy...
Now, keep in mind this only leads the horse to water. Obviously, you have the option to actually follow me on Instagram, assuming you are already a member. And of course, you can go to my Instagram page at any time by simply clicking on the social media icon button that is on every page on this site.
You can follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Vimeo, YouTube, and Pinterest! Social media icons are to the left beneath of the site's main menu.
As always, your comments and suggestions are more than welcome!
